This beautiful and inspirational book teaches adults and older children the skills needed to write calligraphically - elegantly, decoratively and flamboyantly - in a range of modern and traditional styles, suitable for every greeting card and scrapbooking purpose, as well as for other projects.
Practical information is given on creating pleasing layouts for wording and pages, adding written inserts into cards and attaching lettering written on separate layers of paper and card. Embossing, rubbings, printing with carved erasers, linocut lettering and other techniques for creative lettering are also explained. Creative ideas for addressing envelopes are provided and, for occasions when cards need to be produced and sent in quantity, techniques to aid 'mass production' are explained. The book is fully illustrated with diagrams, annotated alphabets and photographs of finished works and stages in their creation.
AUTHOR:
After training in the UK as an ecologist and science teacher, Peter Taylor learned papermaking, printmaking and bookbinding at art colleges, and then the craft of calligraphy from many of the world's finest practitioners, including 'The Queen's Scribe', Donald Jackson. He emigrated to Australia in 1982 and is now recognized as one of Australia's best and most creative calligraphers, as well as a highly experienced and entertaining instructor. With books selling in the UK, Asia and elsewhere, his reputation as an expert has grown in other countries, too.
Peter's work has been selected for exhibitions held by the Queensland Crafts Council, the Queensland Museum and the Queensland State Library. It has also been displayed in galleries in London and Canada, and one of his handmade books was used as part of World Expo '88's gift to the Queen at its opening.
