The four volumes of The Complete Medal of Honor present the full citations of the 3,546 awards granted to 3,526 men (nineteen were double recipients) and one woman between the start of the Civil War in 1861 and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in 2021.

Following on from volumes one, which covers the Civil War, and two, which incorporates the many separate conflicts between 1866 and 1940, this third volume concentrates on World War II, the largest and deadliest conflict in human history. Seventeen individuals earned the Medal of Honor on 7 December 1941, the day the United States officially entered the war in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Four years later, by V-J Day, nearly 500 men from across the country had received their nation’s highest award for bravery. Their selfless actions are related here, alongside biographical information and burial locations.

AUTHOR:
Kevin Brazier has long been intrigued by bravery awards and their recipients. His first book on the Victoria Cross was published in 2010. He has since completed works on the George Cross, the Blue Max (Pour le Mérite) and most recently the Knight’s Cross, in each case listing all the recipients and their burial locations. He has given talks on his work at the National Army Museum, and for the Metropolitan and Hertfordshire Police and the Royal British Legion. For this latest publication, a four-volume set on the Medal of Honor, he has travelled throughout the USA to photograph many of the recipients’ final resting places. He lives in London.
