The last in a series of six comic-book adventures that bring the dinosaurs back to life for young readers, T. Rex and the Great Extinction tells the story of an epic showdown between a Tyrannosaurus and a Triceratops at the twilight of the Cretaceous period.

In Abbeville's Dinosaurs series, a talented artist and a noted paleontologist have teamed up to re-create the vanished world of the dinosaurs in comic-book form. Each volume in the series tells the action-packed yet scientifically accurate story of a different dinosaur living in its particular time and place, and also includes an illustrated essay that explains more about the creatures and settings encountered in the comic.

'T. Rex and the Great Extinction', the sixth and last title in the series, is set at the end of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago. In this world, whose scenery resembles that of our own, a ravenous Tyrannosaurus patrols its territory. Usually it hunts the duck-billed Edmontosaurus, but today it comes upon a massive Triceratops, and the most epic clash in animal history takes place. Little do these mighty combatants realize that both their species will soon vanish from the earth, leaving only fossils behind.

Marco Signore is a paleontologist known for his work on a remarkably well-preserved fossil of the small dinosaur Scipionyx samniticus.

Mark Norell is curator in charge of fossil reptiles, amphibians, and birds at the American Museum of Natural History.
