It was a sensational year for Hollywood too, with filmmakers churning out a movie a day, and with some of the all-time greats like The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind among them. Meanwhile, the masses lived their lives, going to concerts, theaters, and New York’s revolutionary World’s Fair, which introduced television, air conditioning, nylons, and fluorescent lighting. There was little indication of the horrors unfolding across the Atlantic and Pacific, horrors in which the United States would soon become embroiled.

R. Marc Kantrowitz has served as an assistant district attorney, private counsel, and a judge on the trial and appellate courts. He has handled thousands of cases, trying over 100 to a jury. He was also lead counsel on two dozen first degree murder cases. He is the most highly published author on state law in the Commonwealth, writing books on criminal law, civil law, juvenile law, evidence and mental health. He was the creator of the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence, now used in every court in the Commonwealth. In 2024, he was inducted into the Massachusetts Lawyers Hall of Fame. He continues to publish two columns, ‘Law ‘n History’ and ‘Unsolved’, for Lawyers Weekly, and has taught undergrad and law school for over twenty years. This is his sixth history-related book.
