An invaluable reflection on the legacy of Derek Williams (1929-1984), a Cardiff surveyor whose generous bequest of his art collection and entire net estate coincided with a reappraisal of the role and workings of the National Museum of Wales and led to the formation of the Derek Williams Trust in 1992. Concise, insightful chapters by writer and curator David Moore examine the quality and variety of artworks assembled by Derek Williams or supported by the activity of the Trust over a period of over 25 years, ranging from painting to ceramics, photography and digital media. Illustrated with a wealth of artworks from the Trust s collection and related exhibitions.

AUTHOR:
David Moore has worked extensively for museums and galleries in Wales and was curator of Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery between 1992 and 2004, where he established an extensive and well-supported programme of exhibitions focusing upon Welsh artists. David has written books and catalogues on Welsh art under the Crooked Window imprint, which he runs with artist Sue Hiley Harris (www.crookedwindow.co.uk). These include catalogues for the Contemporary Art Society for Wales which demonstrate the substantial impact of the Society s gifts upon regional public art collections. His books include A Taste of the Avant-Garde: 56 Group Wales, 56 Years, which was published in 2012, and Y Grwp Cymreig yn 70/The Welsh Group at 70, which was commissioned by the group and published in 2018.
